My Experience at the IB World Summit 2025

On 15 November, I had the privilege of attending the IB World Summit hosted at British School Jakarta. As a Language and Literature Indonesian A teacher, this event offered not only a valuable professional development experience but also a meaningful opportunity to connect with the wider IB community.

The summit was opened with two impactful keynote addresses. Andrea Downie, Head of Wellbeing at BSJ, spoke about the importance of educator wellbeing and its direct influence on the learning environment. This was followed by an insightful presentation from Mr. Florian Ciprian Baciu, Senior Manager of IB World Schools, who highlighted current developments within the IB landscape and the growing need for collaborative, globally minded teaching practices. These keynotes provided a strong foundation for the rest of the day, reminding us of the bigger purpose behind our work as IB educators.

Throughout the summit, I joined three breakout room sessions specifically related to Language and Literature Indonesian A. Each session presented fresh ideas, thoughtful discussions, and practical classroom strategies that I found highly relevant to my teaching context. The sessions explored aspects of text selection, assessment alignment, and approaches to fostering deeper literary engagement—areas that are essential for supporting student success in the IBDP.

What made the experience especially meaningful was the opportunity to exchange insights with fellow Indonesian A teachers from various IB World Schools. These conversations broadened my perspective on how different schools implement the curriculum while still maintaining the integrity of the IB framework. It was encouraging to see how dedicated and passionate the community is about advancing Indonesian literature within the global IB setting.

Overall, participating in the IB World Summit was an enriching and empowering experience. I left the event with renewed motivation, strengthened professional connections, and a deeper understanding of how I can continue to grow as an Indonesian A Language and Literature teacher. I am grateful for the opportunity and look forward to applying the knowledge I gained to enhance my teaching practice and support my students more effectively. -Elza Puji Rahayu (Langlit Indo A Teacher)
